Xirundu is situated by the Indian Ocean, nine kilometers from Chizavane – some 280 kilometres (175 miles) to the northeast of Mozambique’s capital city, Maputo. Chizavane is a small village in Gaza Province, Mozambique.
Gaza provice is almost “suspended in time” in terms of development but in the next ten years there are plans to attract private investments that will transform the province with the main investment being high end tourism along the coast line and in the Limpopo and Banhine Game Park,
A provincial airport is being built during the coming two years. It lies approximately one hours drive away from Xirundu.
You can drive to the Banhine National Park in two hours. The park is currently untouched and wild, but with the plan to include it in the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park, and with Peace Parks as the appointed managers and developers of this amazing ecosystem this is likely to change in the future. Animals in the park include buffalo, giraffe, hartebeest, kudu and many others. There are several water birds and many birds nesting in the swamps and in the savannah wetlands. Other birds are migrants from neighboring parks and reserves in southern Africa.
This unique beach location so close to bush experiences is a good choice where you truly experience Mozambican flora, fauna and marine coast.
Xirundu Beach Lodge is a 5.5 hectare (13.5 acre) sustainable ecotourism project implemented by the Mozambican family owned companies MoyaMoya Lda and Lomalinda Construções Lda. Xirundu Beach Lodge is situated in a dune forest sanctuary which also hosts a 9 hectare (22 acre) condominium of ten private bungalows. Both properties are beach front land areas with sweet water lakes in the back and a beautiful reef in the beach front area that forms big lagoons during low tide. Xirundu will offer tourists a different accommodation which takes its clients on a journey of experiences and enjoyments in harmony with nature and with local communities. It intends to provide a different tourism experience that is built around the dramatic sand dunes, dune forests, lakes and local community life. Xirundu, in short, takes a step into nature and operates under eco-principles.

During whale season – between June and November – whales can be seen almost every day, often at close proximity. Sea turtles and dolphins are year-round residents.
Deep sea fishing charters can be arranged on request.

We went to Moya Moya for a weekend and ended up staying for almost a week; we just couldn’t tear ourselves away from this place of beauty and peace. We spent our days boogie boarding or snorkeling around the protected tidal pools depending on the tides, climbing the dunes, or exploring the surrounding forests and lakes. Our lovely host introduced us to the perfect high dune for sundowners, dune boogie boarding for the kids, and the most spectacular shades of sunset. And when we needed a rest we returned to our beautifully arranged villa. Each evening brought a night sky unmarred by light, with so many stars that we had a difficult time distinguishing constellations. We wanted to stay longer and will definitely return.
